Configuring Pocket Touch From Scratch

PocketTouch is an application that allows a hand held touch screen device such as a tablet to connect to the till and display the keyboard on the screen allowing to take order from customers without being by the till however, both devices will still be communicating with each other.

Before connecting a PocketTouch device to the till system, you will need to make sure that the till licence allows for a device to be connected.

1. Connecting Device To The Till:

Here are steps to connect the PocketTouch to the till program

- On the Master till, find out the IP address of the till and make sure to set it as static.

- Once you have gathered the IP address, on PocketTouch head over to "Config" > "System Config" > Enter till IP into the "Check Master".

- Under "Sock Password" which is also found under system config, enter the following 4 digit password: 1397

- Now that these details have been entered, press "Ok" at the bottom of the system config screen until you're back to the home screen and select "Sync Till" found right under the config button. This will now gather any configurations and the keyboard from till system you connected to.

By this point, if any error messages have come up when trying this last step, you may want to check that the IP address is correct.

2. Organizing PocketTouch Keyboard

After syncing to the till, you will instantly see that your keyboard will then be populated with the same menu level button as on the till plus addition screen levels that may be holding data such as products or status keys however, those are button that you do not want to have showing on your pocket touch as it will look unorganized and make it confusing fore the user.

The reason for this is that the till assumes you want those menu levels to show on your app due to data being on that menu level.

This now means that your first step to organizing your device keyboard will be to remove any unwanted menu level buttons that are usually labelled as just numbers rather than a set description such as "Bottled".

Removing menu level Buttons:

- On the master tills keyboard editor, head over to each one of the menu level numbers shown on pocket touch and clear out any data that is on there. It is very common for no products to be found on there so you may be thinking what data is the till reading but Status Keys are treated the same as a PLU in this case so removing any Sts keys will remove the unwanted menu level from your Pock Touch keyboard once you synced the till again.  Make sure you repeat this step with any menu level you want removed.

Now that all unwanted menu levels are removed, you will find that the menus that are left on the keyboard will be grouped together without any spaces between them making it hard to navigate between them. This now means that you will need to add back some of the "unwanted" menu levels in a manner that they will be used as dividers between the menu levels that will be in use. However, the difference this time is that the menu levels that you will add back will be selected accordingly where you want it be placed and divided.

Adding Dividers:

- All this will depend on how you want your keyboard to be laid out, but here is an example on how you can divide the Draught, Bottles and Softs menu levels from the spirits. Under the text programming on the till, head down to the menu level text and remove the description on the last three menu levels before the "Spirits" menu level. This step is taken so that when you add the menu level back on the keyboard, it will not confuse anyone by just having a random number on the screen.

- Removing the description is not enough to add the menu level back on the keyboard, you will need to add some data on those same menu levels so your till will be able to identify that it is there. The data recommended to add on the screen is an empty PLU number without a description so it can not be found by the user or effect the sales report, this PLU can be found right at the bottom of the product file (PLU 64999). Make sure to repeat the last two steps for every menu level you will want to add into the keyboard.

- Once you sync the till again, you will be able to see that the menu levels have been added back into the keyboard however this time they will be acting as divider and if selected they will server no function.

Edit Colour:

Considering that your keyboard is now laid out the way you want it to be, the last step is to colour each button accordingly to make it easier to read for the user.

Editing button colour:

- On the master till, Program Mode > All Prog > PLU > External Product Group > Product groups > select the button you want to edit and you will have the colour options listed out.

- Make sure to sync till once you are done for the changes to be sent down.
